The Anglo-Saxon world does not fight against Christians and Muslims, nor is it an instigator of the war in Ukraine and Palestine. Both Muslims and Christians live in the Western countries, as well as members of other religious communities since the right to religious affiliation is inviolable in Western countries. In the case of Russia, which began the military invasion of Ukraine, most of the population both in Russia and in Ukraine is Orthodox Christian. Regarding Palestine and Israel, the EU calls for a ceasefire and de-escalation, and resolution of the conflict that has persisted for years.
We analyze a Facebook post stating the following:
The satanic Anglo-Saxon world is waging war on two fronts: (through Ukraine) against Orthodoxy and (through Israel) against Muslims.
Within the post, this claim is illustrated with pictures of two maps, one from the Middle East, and the other from Ukraine and Russia, while the third portrays the Statue of Liberty in such a way that the original face of the figure is replaced with a skeleton, which gives it a demonized form, all while in the background, part of the American flag can be seen. With such an illustration, the Statue of Liberty, otherwise a gift from France to the USA, is portrayed as a symbol of demonization.
The post claiming the Anglo-Saxon world is waging a war against Orthodoxy or the Muslims, is untrue. In a broader sense, according to Britannica, the Anglo-Saxons are the peoples of England and Wales, but there are also other definitions that include countries such as the USA and Australia. The role the Western countries have in the military invasion that Russia has started on Ukraine, is to help Ukraine in its right of self-defense. This support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, which manifests itself in aid packages, whether they consist of finances or necessary means for self-defense, is misused in the narratives to distort the thesis and accuse these states of waging the war, which is not true. After all, the war could stop immediately if Russia withdrew its troops from Ukraine and its occupied territories.
This is a propaganda narrative without quality evidence. Ukrainian media outlets have been warning since 2022 of the Kremlin’s propaganda narrative claiming the West is fighting against Orthodoxy and against the so-called traditional family values, which Russia appropriates as its exclusively own, in its attempt to justify the military invasion it launched. Part of the clergy of the Orthodox Church in Russia stood behind the military invasion that the country is carrying out on its neighbor and that was noted by the European Parliament. The report states 71% percent of Russians declare themselves as Orthodox, as well as 78% of Ukrainians. The EU does everything it can to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza. It also supports efforts by Egypt, Qatar and the United States to reach an armistice. However, the cease-fire agreement has not been signed despite mediators trying to reach an armistice. Josep Borell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security made a strong call for nuclear facilities not to be the target of conflicts after the situation escalated between Israel and Iran. The civilian disasters in Gaza are huge and have drawn the attention of numerous international organizations for the protection of human rights, as well as calls to stop the attacks, which have so far been to no avail. In May 2023, the EU welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Palestine.
The EU is ready to work with all its partners to bring relief, to help bring peace to both Israelis and Palestinians and restore the political horizon. The EU repeats its call to all sides, to work on de-escalation, they informed at the time.
The Anglo-Saxon world—which is another synonym for the Western world in the post we are reviewing, does not fight against Christians and Muslims, nor is it the instigator of the war in Ukraine and Palestine. Both Muslims and Christians live in Western countries, as well as members of other religious communities since the right to religious determination is inviolable in Western countries. In the case of Russia, which launched its military invasion of Ukraine, the majority of the population in both Russia and Ukraine are Orthodox Christians. Regarding Palestine and Israel, the EU calls for a ceasefire and de-escalation, and resolution of the conflict that has persisted for years.
Due to all the above facts, we evaluate the post we are reviewing as untrue.
