Such a claim comes a few days after the Georgian Parliament, upon the proposal of the ruling party Georgian Dream, adopted the Law on Foreign Agents that caused massive protests throughout the country. The news that Georgia wanted to renew its diplomatic relations with Russia has not been substantiated officially by either side.
Our fact-check showed that the news about the Georgian government preparing to open an embassy in Moscow on the 11th of June was first, apparently, announced by the Georgian Television Mtavari. According to Mtavari, renewing diplomatic relations with Russia became a priority of the party Georgian Dream. Television sources had confirmed that the Georgian and Russian authorities were actively working and that the staff recruitment process for the embassy in Moscow had already started.
Further in the segment, however, the television reports that the ruling party denied the opening of an embassy in Moscow.

The Russian side also denied this claim. The news about the supposed resumption of diplomatic relations with Georgia is false. The Russian Foreign Ministry informed TASS about it, per Radar Armenia.
We see no point in commenting on the various “ducks” circulated by Georgian opposition resources, said from the Russian Foreign Ministry as reported by Radar Armenia.

As a reminder, in September 2008 Georgia discontinued diplomatic relations with Russia due to the recognition of the independence of Abkhasia and South Ossetia.
